21 percent lower fuel consumption
-We have saved enormous amounts of money, says a lyrical Eddie Mohlin, associate with his father, mother and sister in Arne Mohlin’s firm of haulage. It was during the truck fair in Elmia, Jököping 2004, they first came in touch with Vehco and after that it became interesting to digitalize the organisation with Vehoc’s vehicle computer.
Arne Mohlin’s firm of haulage is a substantial and apart family company which is owned, to 100%, by the Mohlin family. The second generation family members are now active in the company’s daily management. The haulage firm started 1977 and the business consists to 90% of chill- and freeze- transportation. The organisation today possesses over 40 chill/freeze- equipages, whereof the main part is vehicles that are owned by themselves, all of them modern trucks which fulfil all requirements demanded of sensitive viand transports and, of course, also th environmental demands existing today. The trucks travel in general 200 000 – 240 000 kilometres per year, some of them more and some of them less.
The haulage firm has installed Co-Driver in 30 trucks and they mainly use the services positioning, tracking, instant messaging, fuel follow-up and economical driving. Several positive effects have been noticed since the company started to use the Co-Driver.
-Thanks to the function fuel follow-up we now have much better control on how much fuel is used. Since 2004 we have reduced the fuel consumption with 21%, from 5,7 litres per 10 kilometres to 4,5 litres per kilometres in diesel consumption. We recommend chauffeurs to have the service economic driving on the screen of the Co-Driver so they themselves can follow up exactly how they have been driving, Eddie Mohlin tells us. Another way to motivate the chauffeurs to drive more economic was the developing of the providing bonus system. Every month 100SEK is handed out to the chauffer who has been driving most economically, 100SEK is also handed out to the person who have had the least idle driving and 100SEK also goes to the one who have had the least speeding. If someone has won all three categories s/he will receive 300SEK.
”The chauffers driving pattern has improved”
-Obviously, no chauffer wants to drive worse than another, but with this bonus system the drivers have become even more positive since they can earn money by driving as economically as possible. We also name “The chauffer of the month” and “The pilot of the month”. This is about the chauffeurs keeping the speed limits. It does not matter if they have been driving well in the other categories, they must have kept the speed limits, e.i. 83km/h. The bonus system function very well and we have noticed a great difference concerning the chauffeurs’ driving pattern, says Eddie Mohlin.
Positioning and tracking are also two important services for the company. Eddie can easily se where the trucks are situated and on which road they have been driving. He tells us that, before he goes to bed in the evening, he checks where the cars are situated and if they will reach their destination on time. If they cannot, Eddie can easily report and inform about delays, which saves both time and money.
